MEET YOUR TEACHERS

🎵 Music Box – Frequently Asked Lesson Questions (FAQ)

Q: What instruments do you teach? Music Box offers instruction on instruments and subjects that go into a contemporary Band: Piano (Keys), Drums (drum set), Vocals, Guitar, Ukulele, Electric Bass. We also offer a Contemporary Band Lesson Program (ask for a syllabus), and several state-recognized Music Production Lesson Programs (for kids and adults).

Our youngest students (4-8) have an opportunity to explore and discover various instruments through a Rising Artist Lesson Program (8 short modules on Voice, Piano, Ukulele, and Percussion), and our Artists on Special Learning Journeys get an opportunity to study with a Board Certified Music Therapist, in Adaptive Music Lesson Track.

At Music Box it is easy to switch instruments, schedules, add on instruments and learning programs to your learning experience, and switch in and out of 1:1 and group instruction.

Q: What is taught in Music Production Courses?

Students can enroll into a 3-week introductory course and learn about 3 major Music Production key areas: Music-making, DJing, Podcasting (subjects rotate weekly), before they dive deeper into each of these topics in a more-in-depth, longer course. We also offer lessons on Recording, Live Sound and Songwriting. In each course, students learn about software, hardware, online security and responsibility, music theory, music styles, sounds, orchestration, pre, production and post-production processes, concepts and applications.

Q: Do I need to pay for a trial lesson?

We charge $40 for trial lessons, to secure appointment attendance. Once a student is enrolled, we can manually credit the $40 to your first invoice, or issue a credit on your Music Box account, so you can apply it to an upcoming invoice of your choice.

Q: Do I need to bring an instrument for a trial class?

If you’d like, but not required, - we have instruments at the school for you (your child) to take a trial class with. We can also help with the instrument purchases.

ADMISSION & ONBOARDING

Q: Is there an enrollment fee?
Yes. There’s a one-time, non-refundable $40 (effective Jan 2026) enrollment fee added to your first invoice, as we have to cover systems and curriculums setup and onboarding.

Q: What happens after I enroll?
Every student receives a personalized Music Box online portal, secure access to a suite of tools and software in our Google Classroom, and starts learning music as a language: reading it, writing it, conversing (playing with others), technique & performance. Each student’s journey looks different. Everyone learns and levels up at their own pace.

EDUCATORS & LESSON STRUCTURE

Q: Will my student always have the same teacher?
Each student has a lead instructor, but substitutions are part of our team-teaching model. All educators follow the same Music Box curriculum and teaching method, ensuring consistency and progress. All teachers are safe, trained, experienced and competent in the subject they are assigned to teach.

Q: How long are lessons?

  • Private lessons: 30 minutes, weekly

  • Group lessons: 50 minutes, weekly
Some months offer 4 weekly lessons, others - 5

COMMUNICATION & PROGRESS TRACKING

Q: How do I receive updates and lesson notes?
All lesson notes, assignments, grading, videos, & resources are administered via Google Classroom. Teachers assign activities, students submit them back after mastering the concepts and applications at home.

Q: What is Music Box Portal used for? - musicboxinc.com/login.

You can communicate with our staff, change and add to your profile details, update your payment methods, cancel and reschedule lessons, and more, via your Music Box online portal.

Q: How much communication will I receive?

We send lesson reminders, updates, cancellation and change notifications via text and e-mail on file. We also send student exclusive informational updates via e-mail bi-weekly, and a monthly newsletter with specials, promotions, and important news. Be sure to whitelist info@musicboxinc.com

TUITION & PAYMENTS

Q: How much are lessons?

At Music Box, we don’t charge per lesson — instead, we have a simple monthly tuition that includes so much more than just weekly lessons.

Our students get up to 5 private or group lessons per month, monthly performance workshops and jam sessions, Make Music Day festivals, testing and level up events, learning materials and software, a reward system, access to our fully equipped studios, trained/safe/competent educators and staff, access to technology, tech, gear, nationally recognized educational programs, and a supportive, growth-focused community.

All of that is included for $194 per month (2025 price), with no contracts and easy make-up options.

Q: How is tuition charged?
Tuition is auto-drafted on the 1st of each month using the card on file. There’s no long-term contract; enrollment is month-to-month. If you are starting lessons mid-month, your first invoice will be prorated.

Q: Do you offer refunds?
No refunds are issued once tuition has been processed. If cancellation is requested before lessons begin for that month, a cancellation fee applies

Q: Does tuition increase?
Yes. Tuition is adjusted annually, in March, at least by the amount of U.S. inflation

CANCELLATIONS & MAKE-UPS

Q: How do lesson make-ups work?
You get 2 make-up credits every 90 days.
Cancel or reschedule via your student portal at least 2 hours in advance to receive a credit. Credits expire after 30 days and do not roll over. No-shows do not receive any lesson credits, as our teachers are pad for late cancellations and no-shows.

Q: What if I miss my lesson?
“No-shows” or cancellations made within 2 hours are not credited, as the educator is still paid for that time

Q: Can I take a virtual make-up lesson?
Yes! You can take a Mooz lesson, or even send a friend or family member in your place

STOPPING LESSONS

Q: How do I cancel my enrollment?
Send a written notice to info@musicboxinc.com or text/call (901) 626-0973 at least 5 business days before the 1st of the month. Verbal notice to a teacher isn’t sufficient. Auto-drafts stop only after a Cancellation Form is submitted via the Google Form,

Q: What if my payment fails?
A late fee is charged after the 7th of the month. Accounts over two months delinquent will be sent to collections

SCHOOL CLOSURES

Q: What holidays are observed?
Music Box closes on New Year’s Day, July 4th, Thanksgiving, plus December 24–31 for in-service.
If a closure affects your lesson, you’ll receive a non-expiring make-up credit.

Q: What about weather closures?
If the school closes due to weather, lessons are cancelled and make-up credits are issued

MEDIA & COMMUNICATIONS CONSENT

Q: Do you take photos or videos of your students?
Yes, occasionally for marketing or training purposes. Students’ names are never used.
To opt out of media consent, email info@musicboxinc.com

Q: Will I receive promotional emails or texts?
Yes — by enrolling, you consent to transactional and promotional communications (reminders, newsletters, updates). Unsubscribing from the newsletter stops weekly updates as well

PERFORMANCE WORKSHOPS & EVENTS

Q: What are Performance Workshops?
They’re monthly 60-minute educational events where students perform or observe, learn stage presence, confidence, and communication. Attendance at least once per grade is required for graduation

Q: Are there other opportunities to perform?
Yes! Students can join competitions, festivals, parades, and concerts. Music Box provides coaching, rehearsal space, and resources for preparation
